About the Position:
The Business Continuity Specialist ensures the Enterprise can sustain critical operations during and after disruptions. The role is responsible for working with a diverse team throughout the Enterprise to conduct risk assessments and Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), develop and maintain Business Continuity Plans, coordinate training and exercises, support governance activities, and lead recovery efforts.
This position uses this diverse team to partner closely with Chevron Assets through the Enterprise Emergency Management Specialist to identify risks, define critical business processes, develop and validate recovery strategies, and ensure plans are exercised and compliant with applicable standards and regulations. The Business Continuity Specialist provides Enterprise-level continuity leadership, influences Asset and Functional leaders, and drives standardization and continuous improvement across the global Business Continuity program. The role reports to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Emergency Management and is based in Houston, Texas.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, maintain, and implement Enterprise-wide Business Continuity policies, and procedures that minimize the impact of disruptions.
Maintain comprehensive records of all continuity activities, including BIAs, plan updates, exercise results, and after-action reports.
Work closely with internal business partners, including IT, HR, Operations, and senior management, to align Business Continuity strategies with overall business objectives.
Work closely with other internal Business Continuity positions to support the Assets to ensure comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in the following:
Conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities that could affect operations.
Conduct Business Impact Analysis (BIAs) to prioritize critical work processes and inform recovery time objectives.
Support the Asset in developing recovery strategies to ensure timely restoration of critical work processes.
Ensure Business Continuity Plans are in place and regularly reviewed and updated based on feedback, changes in the business environment, and lessons learned from exercises and real incidents.
Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to increase awareness and build competency in Business Continuity practices.
Support the Asset in planning and facilitating regular exercises to validate recovery strategies and identify actionable improvement opportunities.
Provide guidance and support to the Asset during incidents and disruptions, ensuring a coordinated response to minimize operational impact.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Familiarity with Business Continuity Management standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Minimum of 5-7 years of direct experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management, or a related field.
Experience in developing Business Continuity recovery procedures and conducting training for this material.
Comprehensive Safety Knowledge: demonstrates technical understanding and ability to apply general health & safety processes and regulations pertaining to industrial workplace settings to ensure operational resilience and workforce safety during disruptions.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and develop practical solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train staff and coordinate with business partners.
Preferred:
Professional certification in Business Continuity (e.g., CBCP, MBCI, or similar).
Knowledge of oil & gas industry safety procedures, policies, & regulatory requirements.
