This is a high sample volume laboratory that requires fast turnaround time, ability to multi-task, and communicate clearly. The Metal and Contaminants team is responsible for metals and non-metals sample preparation and analyses in various organic and aqueous matrices, wet chemistry analysis, and advanced elemental speciation analysis. Different analytical instrumentation used: ICP AES, ICP-MS, and hyphenated techniques such as GC-ICP-MS &, LC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, Tandem LIBS/LA, titration, wet chemistry, elemental analysis by combustion, and XRF techniques.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
• Perform high-throughput metals and non-metals testing and development work to support fast turnaround and high data quality.
• Perform standard and non-standard analytical measurements, method development, and R&D in elemental analysis using ICP, laser-based, combustion-based, and hyphenated techniques.
• Prepare samples in complex organic and aqueous matrices using appropriate digestion, extraction, and wet-chemistry approaches.
• Review high volumes of analytical data, interpret quality control results, and document any nonconformances and corrective actions.
• Apply experimental design and chemometric/statistical methods (e.g., DOE, PCA, PLS/PLS-DA) to interpret results and improve methods.
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing with supervisors, peers, facility support personnel, project customers, and suppliers; document all experiments, data, and analyses in laboratory notebooks and spreadsheets; write standard operating procedures, technical reports, peer review articles, and internal and external presentations.

• Additional (nice to have): UV-Vis, NIR, HPLC-MS, and advanced hyphenated/TOF approaches (e.g., fs-LA-TOF-ICP-MS).
• Proficient in chemometric tools (e.g., MATLAB, SIMCA, PLS-TOOLBOX, Clarity, Pirouette, Scramble).
• Demonstrated experience with direct analysis and sample preparation (e.g., wet chemistry, liquid microextraction, microwave-assisted acid digestion, fusion, hot block).
• Advanced troubleshooting skills for methods and instrumentation.
• Advanced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
