The Opportunity
Our Market Compliance and Energy Contracts team is seeking a detail‑oriented and initiative-taking Trade Compliance Analyst – to support market compliance, regulatory oversight, and trade surveillance activities across physical and financial energy trading. This role is critical in ensuring that trading activity aligns with applicable regulatory requirements, internal compliance standards, and market conduct expectations in a highly regulated commodity trading environment.
Reporting to the Manager, Trade Compliance, this role also supports a broad range of compliance risk and regulatory monitoring activities, including oversight of position limits, trade surveillance, margining, KYC and regulatory reporting obligations. The successful candidate will work closely with Corporate Compliance, Legal, Trading, Risk, and Operations to analyze trading activity, monitor regulatory risks, support regulatory filings and inquiries, and ensure the effectiveness of compliance controls across power and gas markets.
This position requires a strong understanding of energy market structures, regulatory frameworks (including FERC, CFTC, and ISO/RTO rules), and data‑driven risk identification, as well as the ability to operate independently, exercise judgment, and proactively escalate issues in a fast‑paced trading environment.
This role is intended for an intermediate level Analyst; however, scope and complexity of responsibilities may be adjusted commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience.
What you'll do
Perform and support market compliance monitoring for physical and financial power markets, including oversight of position limits, market conduct controls, and trade surveillance alerts, applying a strong understanding of FERC market behavior rules, ISO/RTO tariffs, and applicable CFTC derivatives regulations
Analyze power market trading, bidding, offers, and position data through the lens of regulatory requirements and internal risk management frameworks to identify potential market conduct issues, manipulation risks, anomalous trading behavior, or rule violations, escalating findings in accordance with established escalation and investigation protocols
Maintain and enhance compliance dashboards, surveillance metrics, and key risk indicators to support proactive monitoring of market conduct, concentration risk, and regulatory exposure across power markets, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to Compliance management
Provide senior‑level support for internal audits, regulatory examinations, market conduct reviews, and assurance activities, including preparation of documentation and responses related to power market trading behavior, surveillance controls, and regulatory compliance
Support and oversee regulatory reporting and filing obligations for physical and financial power market activities, including FERC and ISO/RTO‑required submissions, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
Support preparation, review, and validation of FERC Electric Quarterly Reports (EQRs) and other required power market regulatory filings and data submissions, ensuring alignment with underlying trading activity and contract data
Monitor regulatory reporting processes and related control frameworks, identifying gaps, errors, or exceptions in power market filings and driving remediation with internal teams, market operators, and external stakeholders
Coordinate with internal teams, counterparties, and ISOs/RTOs to resolve data quality, reporting responsibility, and submission issues related to power market regulatory requirements
Assist with responses to regulatory inquiries, information requests, audits, and data calls from FERC, ISO/RTOs, or other regulatory authorities related to power market trading, reporting, and market activity
Oversee the maintenance and integrity of counterparty and regulatory reference data across ETRM and Document Management systems, ensuring alignment with regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements
Apply a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and market rules to analyze data quality and structure, assessing impacts to regulatory reporting, position monitoring, and market compliance oversight, and escalating material issues as required
Support margin readiness and ongoing margin compliance, including validation of ETRM records, FCM documentation, and escalation of material discrepancies impacting regulatory or market compliance
Act as a senior point of contact in coordinating and facilitating resolution of margining, collateral, or trade-related disputes with FCMs and internal stakeholders
Provide oversight and backup support for exchange access controls, user administration, and compliance with trading platform requirements (e.g., ICE, CME), ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and control adherence
Draft, review, and maintain compliance procedures and control documentation, ensuring clarity, regulatory alignment, and audit readiness
Identify and drive process improvements related to regulatory compliance, trade surveillance, reporting, and data governance through enhanced controls, automation, or analytics.
Apply a strong analytical mindset to evaluate compliance risks, trends, and control effectiveness using trading, position, and market data.
Provide subject‑matter support to the Manager, Trade Compliance, including mentorship of junior team members, participation in cross‑functional initiatives, and support on ad hoc regulatory or risk matters.
