The Opportunity

Operations Planning Engineer reports to the Manager of Operations Planning West. The successful candidate will be focused on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement as they apply engineering principles and continue to gain experience in natural gas pipeline and storage system operations. They will use hydraulic pipeline modeling software, perform data gathering and analysis, prepare reports, and manage commercial systems in your assigned area with limited direction from senior engineers.

What you’ll do

• Focus on growth and learning with the goal of progressing to independently managing your assigned area.

• Work with internal stakeholders and customers to plan, execute, and communicate maintenance and project activities affecting pipeline operations.

• Use and maintain hydraulic pipeline simulation models and experience to evaluate daily pipeline operation, determine pipeline capacity, and make recommendations.

• Use hydraulic pipeline simulation software, historical data, and operational experience to provide input during project design and execution.

• Work with senior engineers and stakeholders to develop operational modes and procedures.

• Combine commercial data, stakeholder inputs, and technical data to analyze risk to make recommendations on budgets and to identify critical facilities.

• Create and support data analysis tools and automate processes to improve reporting, optimize capacity, and improve efficiency.

• Communicate with other engineers, analysts, commercial personnel, field personnel, external stakeholders, and various levels of management to influence and gain consensus.

• Attend and present at meetings as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field required from an ABET accredited university

• 2 or more years of related experience in engineering, planning, or process operations.

• Strong Microsoft Office based application skills

• Effective verbal and written business communication skills.

• Ability to apply engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, policies, and procedures

• Planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving technical skills

• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities

• Ability to travel in North America for meetings or training at other company locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using gas flow/hydraulic modeling software (Synergi)

• Previous natural gas pipeline industry or pipeline operations experience

• Experience with reading/writing code (e.g. VBA, RPA, SQL, Python) or data analytics software/techniques
