Minimum Requirements:
Geologist (eligible for registration with APEGA: GIT or P.Geo)
Undergraduate degree in Geology or Geophysics with 2-4 years work experience OR Graduate level degree with 1-2 years work experience
Familiarity with regional/local Geology and McMurray Formation lithofacies
Prior exposure to Microstation, Surpac and dispatch software (Wenco) preferred
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Responsibilities:
Daily mine tours of shovel pits
Daily ore grade calculations and compilation of ore reports
Estimating ore grade/fines and ore quality control at operating shovel faces
Delineating ore/waste boundaries in shovel pits based upon field observations and interpretation of geological data (cross-sections, maps and block model)
Advise on geological recommendations to maintain desired ore blend
Collect samples of oil sand material from ore pits and stockpiles as requested
Investigate geological hazards or anomalies observed in the mine and report on findings
Provide support to investigations of bitumen recovery excursions
Location and other Key details:
You will work out of a Syncrude Mildred Lake location in Fort McMurray
The shift schedule is a 6 on /6 off rotation; 12-hour shift
Must be physically fit to work outdoors and able to operate a 4x4 light vehicle in a mining environment
This position has been identified as safety sensitive
A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
