About this opportunity
Cenovus’s Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) New Grad Program is designed to attract, develop, and retain high‑potential recent graduates who are committed to earning their CPA designation. The program offers a comprehensive introduction to Cenovus’s core business through meaningful and challenging work assignments, formal training and development, field exposure, and opportunities to build a strong professional network through mentorship and networking. Successful candidates will simultaneously complete Alberta’s CPA Professional Program, scheduled to launch in January 2027.
CPA New Grads will complete three consecutive 12‑month rotational placements within teams supporting corporate functions or operational reporting. Each rotation increases in scope and complexity, enabling participants to progressively build the competencies required to meet the qualifications of Alberta’s CPA Professional Program.
Cenovus supports participants throughout their CPA journey by offering paid study days, reimbursement for CPA modules and exams, and exam preparation resources. Upon successfully completing the New Grad Program, participants will transition into a permanent role at Cenovus, aligned to business needs. Relocation may be required depending on the position.

What you’ll do
Responsibilities may include:
Completing three 12-month work rotations on teams such as Financial Reporting, Internal Audit, Tax, Treasury, or Business Unit Accounting, to attain CPA competencies.
Preparing reports and analysis to understand results, trends, and key drivers, for a range of stakeholders, including finance leaders, executives, auditors, and operational teams.
Researching accounting or tax guidance and summarizing the application to business situations.
Supporting month‑end and quarter‑end close activities by preparing schedules, journal entries, and documentation used for internal and external financial reporting.
Performing reconciliations, control checks, and variance analysis to validate financial results, investigate discrepancies, and explain movements to management and business partners.
Identifying opportunities to improve reporting processes, data quality, and controls, and assist with implementing enhancements.
Who you are
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
By April 30, 2027, obtained an undergraduate or higher degree in accounting, finance or a related field. Degrees must be completed within the last 2 years (2027, 2026 or 2025).
Committed to achieving your Canadian CPA designation with a desire to pursue a long-term career in the energy industry.
Previous accounting or finance experience (inclusive of summer or co-op/internship) is an asset.
Previous oil and gas industry experience (inclusive of summer or co-op/internship) is an asset.
Curiosity, creative thinking as well as problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Legally authorized to work in Canada full-time for the duration of your work term and able to produce documentation upon application (e.g., work visa)
You must have completed:
Pre-requisite business and accounting courses as specified by CPA Alberta before May 1, 2027.
