We are currently looking for a Senior Technologist – Data Management. We do not necessarily need someone who has coded apps themselves (hands on) but is just familiar with.
Let me tell you about the role:
- The ideal candidate should have hands-on R&D experience in the chemical industry (e.g., lubricants, coatings, pharmaceuticals, or related sectors), with an ideal balance of 70–80% laboratory/domain expertise and 20–30% digital and data science experience to bridge laboratory science with digital
- R&D Laboratory Expertise: Strong understanding of R&D laboratory operations, including formulation, analytical and testing techniques, laboratory workflows, and opportunities to digitise laboratory processes.
- Digital & Data Capability: Familiarity in developing digital solutions, including occasional coding, workflow automation, data lakes, predictive modelling, and machine learning to accelerate formulation development and improve laboratory efficiency.
- Contributes to data transformation and AI enablement across Castrol Product Technology by supporting digital solutions, improving data quality, and helping teams adopt digital ways of working.
What will you deliver:
• Support the preparation of Castrol Product Technology data so it can be used optimally for AI and advanced data science applications. This includes helping to improve data quality, organising and standardising information, and supporting the expansion of digital systems to incorporate new data sources. You will work with teams across Product Technology and Digital to help turn complex and fragmented data into structured, accessible resources that support innovation and better decision-making.
• Assist in the delivery and adoption of digital projects by working with end users and supporting activities such as testing, feedback gathering, and training. Collaborate with Castrol Digital and Product Technology teams to help embed new tools and way of working into day-to-day activities.
• Contribute to maintaining data standards and support efforts to improve consistency, quality, and data stewardship practices across Technology, aligning with wider Castrol initiatives.
Experience:
Approximately 8–10 years of hands-on R&D laboratory experience, complemented by 3–5 years of practical experience in digital technologies, data science, or laboratory digitisation initiatives.
• Some experience or understanding of product development, technical data, or working in a Product Technology environment.
• Interest in digital tools, data, and how these can be applied to improve business performance.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to digital and data-driven projects.
• Good teamwork and collaboration skills, work effectively with a range of stakeholders.

The Data Management & Knowledge Management Team is the central function responsible for defining long term data strategy, governing data quality, managing knowledge assets, and growing digital adoption to enable data‑driven innovation and faster product development across Castrol Product Technology.
• Ability to work through ambiguity with support, helping to define requirements and contribute to solutions.
• Positive and proactive attitude, with enthusiasm to support digital initiatives across.
