Reporting to the Manager, OT, DCS Process Control & Operations Risk Management, the Senior Coordinator OT Site DCS provides senior-level technical coordination, governance, and multi-site accountability for DCS/Safety systems across assigned assets. This role ensures front line operations support, standards compliance, risk management, and MOC project execution alignment across multiple operating sites while acting as the primary interface between Operations, Engineering, Projects, and external integrators.

While this position is currently at Foster Creek, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment:

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation.

  • All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities.

Transportation:

  • Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations.

  • Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB.

  • Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB.

  • Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

  • Sunrise is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton.

What you'll do:

  • Actively participate in Cenovus safety programs and ensure compliance with all safety policies, regulatory directives, and Management of Change (MOC) requirements, including COIMS.

  • Facilitate DCS team participation in risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, PHA), coordinate IMS incident reporting, and facilitate corrective action tracking and closure for DCS-related incidents

  • Ensure after-hours callout processes are clearly defined and communicated.

  • Coordinate DCS disaster recovery awareness and readiness, and confirm direct reports are trained to execute recovery protocols.

  • Assist Operations with shutdown bypass requests and facilitating logic forces as required.

  • Provide coordination and consistency across DCS, PLC, SCADA, graphics configurations, alarm management, and control loop performance for Canadian Thermal assets.

  • Prioritize and coordinate Management of Change (MOC) execution, scheduled maintenance, and operations support.

  • Ensure accuracy of as-built documentation as part of MOC execution including shutdown keys, control narratives, P&IDs, and other controlled documents.

  • Track work activities across SAP and ServiceNow applications.

  • Support project FATs, pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and turnover activities as needed; ensure lessons learned are captured and shared.

  • Review CSU and project turnover packages to confirm DCS deliverables meet standards and operational readiness requirements.

  • Execute DCS activities as a working contributor as capacity permits.

  • Ensure adequate resourcing for work activities and vacation coverage

  • Approve DCS access control for internal and external parties. Ensure adequate permitting, safe work plan approval and proper notification of remote work.

  • Collaborate with the 3 other Senior Coordinators ensuring adherence to expertise support model, proper resource distribution and technical competence availability to accommodate work at all assets.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Registered P.ENG with APEGA or Technologist certification.

  • Minimum 12 years of related industry experience with demonstrated leadership of a technical team.

  • Experience facilitating cross-functional stakeholder engagement with Operations, Engineering, Projects, and external vendors.

  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:
    o Emerson DeltaV, DeltaV SIS (Safety Instrumented System)
    o Honeywell Experion, Honeywell Safety Manager
    o ABB Freelance, ABB XA
    o Triconex Safety Instrumented System
    o ControlLogix PLCs

  • Experience with plant construction, commissioning, start-ups and operations.

  • Understanding of MOC process, alarm management strategies, preventative maintenance and system monitoring.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines.  A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
