The open position is for a Research Technician in the Metal & Contaminant Team (M&C), within Global Laboratory Services. The Metal and Contaminant team are responsible for metals and non-metals preparation and analyses of various organic and aqueous matrices, performing wet chemistry analysis and advanced element speciation analysis. Various analytical instrumentation used: ICP AES; ICP-MS, and hyphenated techniques such as GC-ICP-MS &, LC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, titration, wet chemistry, elemental analysis by combustion, and XRF techniques.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
• The open position requires a strong background in ICP analysis in addition to flexibility and versatility in working among the different labs within the M&C team.
• This is a high sample volume laboratory that requires fast turnaround time, the capability to set different test methods in aqueous and organic media
• The successful candidate will prepare samples and perform standard and non-standard analytical measurements on elemental analysis by combustion techniques, as well as wet chemistry analysis
• Reviewing large volumes of data and interpretation of quality control, applicants must have proper planning, organizing, and flexibility skills.
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing with supervisors, peers, facility support people, project customers, and suppliers; document all experiments, data, and analyses in laboratory notebooks and spreadsheets; write standard operating procedures, technical reports, peer review articles, and presentations.
• Exhibit all Chevron Values/Behaviors like integrity, trust, diversity, ingenuity, partnership, Protecting People and the Environment, and high performance. Having a passion for safety is essential.
Required Qualifications:
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience in analytical laboratory
• Bachelors Degree or Equivalent in Chemistry, environmental chemistry, Biochemistry, STEM-related
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in Chemistry desired
• Previous Chevron experience and commercial laboratory for petroleum analysis
• Excellent manual dexterity and eyesight to carry out work on tiny objects with precision tools
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot lab apparatus is highly desirable
• Verbal and written communication skills, multi-tasking, customer service skills, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to keep information organized and confidential.
• Proficient with Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Hands-on wet chemistry and elemental analysis by combustion techniques

The anticipated salary range for this position is $67,700 – $101,500. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
