We are seeking an experienced Senior Surface Land Coordinator to support surface land activities across a diverse and evolving portfolio. This role is responsible for managing land-related work that supports company operations, including surface land acquisition, land administration, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder coordination. The Senior Surface Land Coordinator will work closely with the area land agents, internal teams, and external stakeholders to help ensure effective land management and successful project execution.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Minimum 10 years of surface land experience in the oil and gas industry, supported by a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Petroleum Land Administration
  • In-depth knowledge of land administration, land use regulations, and surface land acquisition processes for both Crown and Freehold lands
  • Strong understanding of PLAR, AER application requirements, and applicable regulations, including AER, AEP, AFP, Directive 56, and related industry standards for surface land management
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations, Indigenous affairs, and associated consultation processes and agreements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy; ability to manage multiple priorities, meet competing deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and drive process improvements for efficiency and consistency
  • Proficiency with land and data management systems and public data sources, including LandView, Abadata, Land Titles, and related software; GIS knowledge is considered an asset

Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and manage all aspects of surface land acquisition for Alberta upstream properties, including new and existing applications
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including geology, construction, engineering, and facilities, to gather, coordinate, and provide information required for land-related projects
  • Liaise with landowners, government agencies, and regulatory bodies to build positive relationships, address land-related issues, and respond to inquiries
  • Monitor and track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables related to surface land acquisition and management
  • Review, audit, and distribute project clearance packages to appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and current land records, databases, and documentation, including LandView, in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate surface land documentation, including assignments, schedules, divestitures, and purchase and sale documentation for Alberta upstream assets
  • Support land management strategy development, process and procedure improvements, and communication of regulatory changes and industry best practices to the team



Location and other Key details: 


  • The position will be based at the Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Center at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday with business travel to sites as required
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
