Application Developer – Data & Digital Solutions
Determined, imaginative, curious—if these are some of the ways you describe yourself, we want to learn more about you!
At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.
The Opportunity
The Data & Digital Innovation (D&DI) team drives data and digital excellence across TC Energy's Natural Gas Pipelines business, unlocking value through governance, analytics, AI, and automation. Within D&DI, the Data & Digital Solutions team sits at the intersection of technology and business, building the applications and data products that help one of North America's largest natural gas pipeline networks run smarter.
We are looking for an Application Developer who can turn complex business challenges into practical, production-ready solutions using the latest technology from AWS and Microsoft. You will work closely with Operations, Projects, Safety and Technical Services, Commercial teams, and Information Services to design applications and analytics that improve how we move natural gas safely and efficiently across the continent.
This is a hands-on builder role. You will be part of a team that owns solutions end-to-end, from requirements through design, development, testing, and deployment, in an environment where AI adoption and digital innovation are accelerating rapidly. You will collaborate daily with team members across Houston, Calgary, and Charleston, so strong communication skills and a team-first mindset are essential.
What you'll do
Solution Development
- Build and maintain cloud-based solutions on AWS, working with services such as Lambda, S3, Glue, and other platform components relevant to our data and application stack.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy business applications using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) and Microsoft Fabric to solve natural gas pipeline business problems.
- Participate in the full solution lifecycle: ideation, architecture, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Write clean, maintainable code in languages such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL, DAX, and Power Query to support application logic, data transformation, and analytics.
Analytics & Insight
- Deliver business analytics and data visualization solutions that translate complex operational data into actionable insights for stakeholders across the Natural Gas business.
- Analyze business processes to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement through data-driven solutions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements, understand workflows, and translate needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate clearly and proactively across a geographically distributed team in Houston, Calgary, and Charleston, sharing progress, risks, and ideas with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support citizen development initiatives by providing technical guidance, standards, and governance to business users building low-code solutions.
Continuous Improvement
- Apply DevOps practices to enable continuous integration, testing, and deployment of applications.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, platform capabilities, and industry trends to continuously raise the bar on solution quality and impact.
- Contribute to the team's broader portfolio of AI, automation, and digital innovation projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in application development, business solutions development, or a related role.
- Experience building or deploying solutions on AWS cloud services.
- Proficiency in one or more programming or query languages, such as Python, SQL, DAX, or Power Query.
- Experience with prompt engineering for generative AI solutions, including designing, testing, and refining prompts to support application functionality and business use cases.
- Experience developing front-end applications using Angular.
- Strong business analytics skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and deliver insights that support business decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-site team environment across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the midstream natural gas pipeline industry, including pipeline operations, SCADA systems, or related industrial data sources.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric for data engineering, Lakehouse architecture, or enterprise analytics.
- Experience in data engineering, including data pipeline development, ETL or ELT processes, and integration from multiple sources.
- Experience with DevOps tools and practices, including Git, Kiro, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps.
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning workflows, generative AI, or agentic frameworks such as Copilot, Bedrock, or AgentCore.
- Experience enabling or supporting citizen development programs and practices.
- AWS or Microsoft certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect, PL-100, PL-200, PL-400, or Fabric Analytics Engineer.
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and enterprise data management principles.
