Business Analyst
Determined, imaginative, curious—if these are some of the ways you describe yourself, we want to learn more about you!
At TC Energy, we are proud to connect the world to the energy it needs. Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.
The Opportunity
BA/QA on a small, high-ownership team within a large enterprise environment, responsible for requirements analysis, test strategy, and quality assurance for the TC eConnects commercial gas pipeline operations system.
The role bridges business stakeholders and the development team — translating complex gas operations workflows into actionable requirements and validating that delivered solutions meet FERC-regulated business needs.
You'll leverage AI tools daily to accelerate research, requirements documentation, test case generation, and data analysis. As roles evolve within the team, you may participate in the full AI-driven development lifecycle (AIDLC) — from requirements through development and QA.
What You'll Do
Gather, refine, and document requirements from business stakeholders (Gas Control, Scheduling, EDI, Storage, Capacity Release) — often translating domain-specific operational needs into structured stories and acceptance criteria
Design and execute test strategies for complex workflows including nomination cycles, scheduling, EDI confirmations, invoicing, and capacity release auctions
Use AI tools (Kiro, Copilot) to rapidly analyze business rules, generate test scenarios, draft requirements documents, and cross-reference system behavior against NAESB/FERC standards
Validate data integrity across environments — comparing database results, verifying report outputs, and confirming that rate changes, contract modifications, and billing calculations produce correct outcomes
Create and refine work items in Azure DevOps with clear acceptance criteria, ensuring requirements are testable and well-defined for the development team
Perform regression testing across the full application stack — Angular UI, Java middleware, SSRS reports, and database stored procedures
Work closely with technical SMEs to understand system architecture, identify risk areas for testing focus, and ensure requirements are technically feasible
AI-assisted analysis is the standard workflow — you'll use AI tools to quickly understand business processes, generate test matrices, validate data sets, and draft documentation
You'll work directly in the application across all environments (dev, test, stage) to validate functionality and reproduce issues
SQL proficiency is expected — you'll write queries to verify data, validate calculations, and build test evidence
Requirements and defects are tracked in Azure DevOps with clear acceptance criteria, repro steps, and business impact
You'll coordinate with business users for UAT, gathering feedback and ensuring sign-off before production deployment
Utilize and interpret NAESB EDI transaction standards to support nominations, scheduled quantities, and confirmations
Analyze and support rate structures, tariff components, and billing/invoicing processes
Manage capacity release auctions and oversee related contract administration activities
Ensure system functionality and processes align with FERC regulatory requirements
Apply deep knowledge of gas pipeline commercial operations, including nominations, scheduling, confirmations, and allocations
Work within the TC eConnects technical environment, including an Angular 17 front end, Java middleware, and SQL Server back end
Write and execute SQL queries (SQL Server 2019) to support data validation and reporting accuracy
Test and validate SSRS reports, ensuring outputs align with business and system requirements
Use Azure DevOps to manage work items, track progress, and support test planning and execution
Leverage AI tools (e.g., Kiro, GitHub Copilot) to support analysis, documentation, and test generation
You're not testing a simple web app. The business rules are complex, domain-specific, and have real financial and regulatory consequences — incorrect scheduling or billing directly impacts pipeline shippers and FERC compliance
Small team within a large enterprise. You'll help refine and execute the quality strategy, not just run someone else's test scripts
AI tools aren't optional — they're integrated into your daily workflow for requirements analysis, test case creation, data validation, and documentation
The role is evolving — as AIDLC matures on the team, you'll have opportunities to participate across the full development lifecycle, not just traditional BA/QA boundaries
You'll work directly with business stakeholders (Gas Control, Scheduling, EDI operations) and collaborate with technical SMEs for guidance on system behavior, architecture, and production-critical decisions — supporting a system that runs 24/7 for FERC-regulated pipeline operation
