The Opportunity
The Historical Encroachments team is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated junior damage prevention candidate to join a collaborative group of technical and field professionals dedicated to supporting safe and compliant work around company assets. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop technical skills while working alongside experienced engineers and operation staff.
Reporting to the Manager, Historical Encroachments within the Right-of-way and Threat Management group, this position provides technical and information management support to Engineers, Crossing Analysts, and field personnel. The successful candidate will work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders while supporting the timely and high-quality delivery of engineering project work.
This position is eligible to participate in TC Energy’s Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) Rotations Program. Where applicable, a rotational assignment would typically be up to 24 months in duration, with the length and structure of the rotation subject to business needs and organizational priorities.
Participation in the Program, as well as any rotational changes or transitions between assignments, requires leadership review and approval. Completion of a rotation or transition to a subsequent role is not guaranteed and will be assessed based on the individual’s performance, development objectives, and prevailing business needs at the time.
What you’ll do
Support the full lifecycle implementation of the Historical Encroachment Canada project, ensuring it meets all technical requirements, complies with regulations, maintains documentation, and proper case file close-out under the guidance of senior engineers.
Perform engineering analyses to support the identification and assessment of pipeline integrity threats and encroachment risks, including surface loading stress analyses for permanent vehicle crossings, ensuring optimal mitigation measures are identified and implemented.
Apply engineering fundamentals and technical standards to support QA/QC reviews of vendor deliverables and data submissions.
Coordinate with internal drafting teams to support the preparation and revision of sketches and CAD drawings.
Assist in the preparation of agreement and drawing packages, verifying completeness, accuracy, and organizing package delivery to field personnel.
Support project reporting, communication, and information management activities, including document control, SharePoint and CEMT (Crossing and Encroachment Management Tool) administration, data tracking, mapping tools, preparation of meeting materials and scorecards, and support of continuous improvement initiatives.
Support proper case file close out and turnover of information to Operations and Damage Prevention teams following requirements and processes.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to reach optimized solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Engineering discipline (Civil, Materials, Mechanical, or Petroleum, others may be considered).
New graduate or up to 3 years of relevant engineering experience, including co‑op, internship, or early‑career experience.
Registered with APEGA as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT).
Preferred Qualifications
Foundational knowledge of engineering principles and understanding of Canadian regulations and standards related to pipelines.
Demonstrated ability to perform technical analysis, interpret engineering data, and support engineering assessments under supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical documentation and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, experience with SharePoint, Bluebeam, and other GIS or engineering software is considered an asset.
Have good analytical and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
