The Opportunity
The Power and Energy Solutions (PES) Financial Analytics team is seeking a Financial Analyst to support investment evaluations and business case development across the energy value chain.
Reporting to the Manager, PES Financial Analytics, you will contribute financial and economic analysis that informs capital allocation, portfolio optimization, and strategic planning, partnering with internal teams to quantify key value drivers and risks and translate analysis into clear business and investment recommendations.
This role supports financial, commercial, and investment evaluations across power and low‑carbon development and commercial opportunities, as well as venture capital investments in emerging technologies.
What you'll do
Build and maintain financial models to evaluate power, low‑carbon, and emerging technology opportunities, incorporating a strong understanding of value‑creation levers, risk drivers, and commercial structures
Apply valuation methodologies—including discounted cash flow analysis, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and comparable benchmarking—to assess risk‑adjusted returns and support investment and commercial decisions
Synthesize analysis into clear, concise materials—including valuation summaries, business cases, and recommendations—for leadership and decision‑makers, clearly articulating key assumptions, risks, and value‑enhancement opportunities
Assess the implications of commercial structures and contractual arrangements on risk exposure, returns, and strategic alignment across evaluated opportunities
Partner with cross‑functional teams—including engineering, operations, accounting, legal, tax, and other key stakeholders—to align inputs, assumptions, and considerations in support of comprehensive evaluations
Support portfolio monitoring by updating outlooks, assessing evolving value drivers and risks, and evaluating how performance and market developments impact the underlying investment thesis
Identify opportunities to apply AI‑enabled tools and automation to improve the speed, consistency, and quality of evaluation workflows
Support ad hoc analytics requests, including data gathering, visualization, and automation of recurring analyses
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Accounting, Business, or a related field
Approximately 5 years of experience conducting financial analysis and investment evaluations, including roles in valuation, corporate finance, or investment analysis
Demonstrated experience building and applying financial models to support evaluations and decision‑making, including discounted cash flow analysis, project‑style modeling, and scenario and sensitivity analysis
Understanding of energy asset economics, with strength in power‑related assets and the key drivers of revenues, costs, and risks
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex financial, commercial, and technical information into clear, decision‑relevant insights
Proven ability to communicate analysis effectively—both verbally and in writing—and tailor messages and materials for audiences ranging from technical stakeholders to senior leadership and governance forums
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with experience translating complex analysis and large datasets into clear, executive‑ready materials
Experience supporting cross‑functional evaluation processes, with the ability to coordinate inputs and work effectively with stakeholders across engineering, commercial, legal, accounting, tax, risk, and related teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience evaluating power‑related investments or opportunities, with familiarity across generation, storage, and other related infrastructure
Working knowledge of North American power markets and the regulatory and policy frameworks that influence project economics, risk, and returns
Experience assessing commercial structures for power assets, including offtake arrangements and risk‑management approaches
Experience using data, analytics, or AI‑enabled tools to improve the efficiency, consistency, or transparency of analysis (e.g., automation, data preparation, or research synthesis)
Exposure to low‑carbon assets and infrastructure (e.g., CCUS, hydrogen, renewable fuels, or other energy transition opportunities), including associated commercial and development considerations
Progress toward or completion of a professional financial designation (e.g., CFA, CPA) or a relevant advanced degree
