Senior Operations Engineer
About this opportunity:
The Senior Operations Engineer for Lloydminster Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil (LTCHO) is responsible for developing and executing asset strategies that maximize value while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This position provides technical leadership and troubleshooting support across surface infrastructure and field facilities, while maintaining accountability for key aspects of P&L performance. The position requires strong business acumen to complement a diverse technical skillset in applying corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to resolve operational challenges and optimize asset and financial performance.
Working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, the Senior Operations Engineer drives continuous improvement initiatives, evaluates project economics, and implements solutions that enhance asset reliability, efficiency, and overall business results.
What you’ll do:
Champion a strong safety culture with a focus on process safety in design, operations, and PSE response.
Accountable for key aspects of P&L performance, including operating costs and operations capital, while supporting production targets.
Provide infrastructure, design and process engineering support across the operation including pipeline hydraulic modelling, compressor evaluations, equipment sizing, process modelling and system optimization.
Provide engineering support for repairs, mechanical alterations, utilization of alternate products or materials and new equipment installations to deliver prioritized and well-defined scopes to the Facilities Engineering team in the Management of Change (MOC) process.
Develop and implement solutions to optimize gas and fluid processing capacity, addressing infrastructure constraints and improving efficiency.
Lead front-end project scoping, design, cost estimating, and economic evaluations, ensuring alignment with collaborative stakeholders, business plans and budgets.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to enhance asset value, optimize commercial arrangements, and improve performance.
Ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement initiatives through strong coordination with field teams and Integrated Operations Center.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA and/or APEGS, with the ability to authenticate mechanical engineering deliverables
Minimum 8+ years of experience in operations, facility, and production engineering
Strong knowledge and application of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, CSA Z662)
Solid understanding of upstream oil and gas operations and facility design
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines in a dynamic environment
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, sound decisions across diverse technical and business challenges
Willingness to travel to field locations as required (less than 10%)
