Reservoir Engineer – Structured Credit

This role provides technical reserves and subsurface expertise to support ST&S credit underwriting and portfolio management of commodity-based financing transactions with oil and gas producers.
The role focuses on validating reserves, production profiles, and operating assumptions underpinning credit decisions, ensuring technical inputs are robust and aligned with financial models. Working closely with the credit team, Front Office, and Legal, the Reservoir Engineer enables informed decision-making across a range of structured transactions.
Primary focus is US onshore unconventional assets, with selective exposure to conventional, Canadian oilsands, and offshore assets.
Key Accountabilities
- New Deal Underwriting
- Validate reserves assumptions (type curves, production profiles, volumes) in third-party reserve reports
- Assess operating assumptions: LOE benchmarking vs. historical performance; fixed vs. variable cost structure; forward-looking reasonableness
- Review P&A assumptions (costs, timing, reserve allocation)
- Evaluate development program assumptions included in financing cases
- Run price sensitivities in internal reserves database to assess value impact
- Align technical inputs with corporate financial models
- Contribute concise technical inputs to credit underwriting materials
- Portfolio Monitoring
- Compare updated reserves reports vs. deal inception / prior reviews
- Assess key variances in volumes, production, and asset performance
- Support validation of updated corporate models with credit team
- Run downside/upside price scenarios on reserves valuations
- Contribute to portfolio reviews, rating updates, and credit papers
- Cross-Team Support: provide reservoir engineering input to broader ST&S credit teams for producer financing structures.
Essential Education & Experience
- Degree in Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering or related field
- Experience with US onshore unconventional reserves evaluation
- Strong understanding of reserves reporting and production forecasting
- Familiarity with operating costs, development planning, and P&A obligations
- High attention to detail; ability to challenge assumptions and identify risks
- Clear communication skills translating technical insights to non-technical stakeholders
Desirable Experience
Exposure to conventional, oilsands, or offshore assets
Familiarity with reserves databases and price sensitivity analysis
Basic understanding of corporate financial models
